This set of five negative (imprint) ammonite fossils features well-defined impressions of Dactylioceras ammonites from the Sandsend area near Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Rather than preserved shell material, these specimens represent the natural moulds left behind in the surrounding shale after the original ammonite shell dissolved. These negative impressions still retain excellent ribbing and spiral detail, offering a clear insight into the original form of the animal.
Dating to the Early Jurassic (~180 million years ago), these fossils come from one of Britain’s most celebrated fossil-bearing formations. Sold as a single set of five, they are ideal for collectors, educational use, or framing and display.
Period: Jurassic
Age: ~ 180 million years
Origin: Yorkshire, England
Please note that, as natural fossils, each imprint varies slightly in size, depth, and preservation. The photograph show the exact set offered.
